Tax Law is the area of legal practice that governs the imposition, assessment, and collection of taxes by the government. It involves the interpretation and application of complex tax rules affecting both individuals and businesses, and plays a critical role in ensuring lawful tax compliance, effective tax planning, and the protection of taxpayers’ rights.

In the Philippines, taxation is primarily governed by the National Internal Revenue Code of 1997, as amended, along with related regulations and issuances of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). This body of law covers key concepts such as income tax, value-added tax (VAT), percentage tax, estate and donor’s tax, and available administrative and judicial remedies in cases of tax assessments and disputes.
